0 Use the Internet to the best of your advantage

It never Fails to amaze me at how ignorant and illiterate some of our young people are even with the widespread access to information via the Internet.
Most of what is found in books is now available online and yet our children are more vacuous now than ever before.

Spend less time on Facebook and more time reading on the Internet or download the Kobo or Kindle app to your smart phone so that you can access books.

Researches should be easy and students should not be failing exams with the amount of available information, research papers and free books on the Internet.

Use the Internet for your school based assessments, projects, essays and home work and see how your grades will skyrocket.

0 Critical Language Tactics for Your Examinations

Tips for Critical Reading Questions in Your Exams

• Read all the answer options provided before choosing a response.
• Always try to imagine the context of the passage so that you can get an idea of what an unfamiliar word might mean. Every story has a situation. Learning what makes up parts of words will help you break down the mean of “big words”
• Words are not always the same in meaning; sometimes they are just similar in meaning or closest in meaning. Always apply the situation to your responses to ascertain that it will fit right into the sentence.

Sentence Completion Questions

Read a passage twice so that you can get a genuine feel of the passage. You might miss crucial pointers in your first reading that might become clearer to your understanding when you reread the excerpt.
Words like (but, however, although, albeit, on the other hand) that signals a contrast and others like (moreover, in addition to, furthermore) that indicates a continuation of the storyline being told.
Always test words in double blank sentences to see which would fit in their correctly before choosing a pair of words for a response.
For Eg.
1. B Choose which of the following pair of words when inserted in the blank spaces expresses sentence best.

A) Adore-Doting b) Forgive-Loving C) Harsh-Respectable D) Ridicule-Hilarious

I ___________my father because he is a ___________Parent

Read the sentence twice while thinking about words that would best fit in the blank spaces. First word that comes to mind should be “love”. A word that is similar to love in the choices section is (A) Adore which means “love intensely” and since it is a pairing response question then Doting would be the word that best pairs with Doting.
Someone might choose (B) because in truth Forgive and Loving could work but when one thinks of it. It leaves the sentence sounding unfinished. Unfinished means it is not expressed at its best.
Do not be distracted by the response that could be the answer” this is fondly called the distractor. The distractor is always a response that sounds like it could work in the response sections.
Then there is the choice that sounds similar to the situation but completely inadmissible to the sentence situation that would be choice (D) and then there is a response that is completely absurd and has nothing whatsoever to do with the subject at hand. Always try and eliminate these factors before you choose a response.

Improving Writing Skills

Try to write from your heart or your imagination when you are doping an essay. Think about a story you would create to tell your friends. Imagine all the elements that you would use in order to make that story appealing, engaging or even funny to your friends and then proceed to write that story on paper in English.

Try to remember sceneries you have seen on Television or in your everyday life. Attempt to describe the colours, smells and tastes that you encounter in your everyday life. This brings life to your writing.
You can apply knowledge from other fields to your English Language paper. For instance you are asked to write an essay about Dancehall Music and Its influence on culture. You can draw references from what you learnt in History class, Social Study Class and Business class to express a sound essay.

Talk about where Dancehall Music is derived from and how music is a social agent, and how it affects our economy with the vendors, corporate sponsorships and money circulating to Hairdressers, Clothes Merchant, and Car Rentals. There is so much to talk about in an Essay if only one is directed to sources for inspirations.

Answering Question from a Read Passage

Read through the questions before you start reading the passage. You will get an idea of what it is you are looking for when you read the passage.
Always read the introduction twice because in there lies the lead of the passage. You know where the passage from the introductory paragraph is heading and that is why teachers stress that students who have good lead paragraphs gain better marks on exams.
Make sure your answers are based only on what is written in the passage and not what you know from the story, if it is taken from a popular book. Always read paired excerpts separately and answer questions one at a time.

Sentence Reconstruction Answers

Not all sentences need correction. Some are acceptable the way they are.
Read sentences aloud so that you can get an idea of whether it would sound right if you spoke like that. Picture how it would sound in your ear and if it doesn’t sound right. It means it is not right.
Always attempt a response than leave a question blank. Remember you do not lose points for incorrect responses.
The most common errors are spelling, subject-verb agreement, faulty diction, incorrect tense,). The changes that are in the answer choices can also reveal what is wrong with the sentences.

Some people like to think that they can take a shortcut to an education. There are no shortcuts to being a knowledgeable and wise person.
If you have not comprehended what happened at the beginning the you won't be able to understand what is occurring at the ending.

If you want to do well at mathematics, start studying for the basics and work your way up to the more complex computations.

If you want pass your English Exams then you must not only memorize the theories of the language, syntax and phonics but read more so that you will have an understanding of how linguist put words together to express themselves. 0 Plagiarism, Grammar and Expression in writing

One of the reason why many people fail at writing is because they cannot effectively composed an article of writing without the nagging grammars and plagiarism pointers that teachers often fail student on.

We have a system of evaluating articles, essays and documents before they are submitted to the teachers so that students can get good grades and move up in their class.

Parents can be proud and teachers feel like adequate educators when students are progressing.

Students can use online Grammar platforms to check their work before they submit them for gradation.

Online thesaurus and dictionaries can verify spelling of words and give alternative words so that writing does not sound too repetitive.

There are sites that offer plagiarism checks for students who have issues reproducing from content collated by other authors. The idea is to mainly write what you understand from what you have read. This is the best way to avoid plagiarism.

Writing is never an easy feat but one should write from one's imagination and perspective. Do not be intimidated by what others write because you may not share the same outlook.

A famous writer once wrote to our Crystal Evans and said

"Geoffrey Philps wrote to me

" The real journey of a writer – or any creative – isn’t to publication, rewards, acclaim, but to their own voice.
When you find your voice, you connect to yourself, and then through yourself to the world. Your work resonates. As Thoreau once wrote in his journal, “The whole is in each man.” (And each woman.)
I’ve always felt that your voice is twofold: not just how you write, but what you write about. They inform and shape each other.
You need to read, look, listen, absorb. You need to take the world into you so you can reinvent it through your own point of view.
You need to tune out external voices that speak in the language of the shoulds – you should do this, you should do that – and move into the secret life of your intuition. This other life has its own mind. It will guide you to places that, because they are yours, remain – as yet — unknown and uncharted. For all the self-help and how-to that fills our culture, success is, in the end, as unique to you as a fingerprint. You can only make that path by walking it. It unfolds in front of you. Sometimes it carries you along.
So you need to write.
And write.
And write.
You need to write past the point of self-consciousness. You need to quit trying to write: to be clever, witty, pretty, poetic. (Perhaps your true voice is none of these things.) You need to fall through the words into something else entirely.
(Blogging can be exceptionally good for this.)
We start by imitating the styles of others. That kind of mimicry – conscious or not – is like a trapdoor opening beneath you.
It drops you into yourself.
It’s when you lose yourself that your true voice slowly and steadily comes out of the dark. It might be raw and stark and naked. Or howling and slightly mad. Your soul is stamped all the way through it.
Your words on the page and your soul on the line.
Finding your voice – what to say, how to say it, how to speak up in the world – is about making your soul manifest. When you’re moving in the grooves of that soulprint, you know it. And so do others.
This is art."

0 Work at Home Jobs that Pay Big

According to Forbes.com

Students should be considering Work at Home Jobs when they prepare for their Careers.

Across age groups and job categories, demand is growing for good-paying work that can be done right from home. Nervous about falling 401ks, boomers hope to continue earning income without the hours or stress of office life. Gen Xers, often caring for elderly parents or young children, are thirsty for flexibility. And younger cohorts are attracted to “free agency” more than ever.

“There’s less willingness today to be a cube-dweller or lifetime commuter,” says Michael Haaren, co-director of RatRaceRebellion.com and co-author of Work at Home Now. “Being able to work from home makes life easier and appeals to the latent entrepreneur.”

While there may be a tradeoff to working at home—a salary haircut and less advancement potential—a surprising amount and variation of well-paying professional jobs have a two-second commute. From the health, tech and creative industries, good at-home jobs are springing up everywhere.

According to Haaren, the work-from-home sector reflects what’s going on in the brick-and-mortar economy. Today, that means an explosion of new and diverse health-care jobs. Top-paid among them are home-based physicians and radiologists, now being hired by companies like Imaging On Call and Permedion to review and evaluate patient cases. Haaren suspects they earn near the $1,975 median weekly income of physicians, as reported by the U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), making it a six-figure job.

What’s more, the burgeoning field of “telehealth” provides quality wages and sometimes full benefits or bonuses. Companies like MedQuist are beginning to hire more at-home support staff, like medical transcriptionists. Haaren estimates they earn between $30,000 and $50,000 a year and says they are eligible for a signing bonus. Similarly, registered nurses working at home earn near the $1,055-per-week industry median to do telephone triage, advising patients about health concerns over the phone.

IT was one of the first fields to latch onto the anywhere mentality, Haaren says, likely due to its young workforce and penchant for abstraction. In 2008, completely virtual IT company MySQL was acquired for $1 billion by what’s now Oracle. Its at-home staff means reduced building costs and a bigger talent pool. Plus, it’s a boon for the employees. The BLS reports that computer software engineers earn a median of $1,549 each week and $85,000 a year. Computer scientists, programmers and systems administers all earn about $1,200 per week.

Other lucrative at-home knowledge jobs include public relations specialists, graphic designers, writers and authors, and postsecondary teachers. According to the book Make Money Teaching Online by Danielle Babb and Jim Mirabella, if online adjunct professors work hard enough, they can earn six-figure salaries.

Haaren warns that some older fields, like law and high finance, haven’t caught up to the flexibility demands of the new workforce but show signs of cracking. For example, JPMorgan Chase sometimes recruits regional home-based mortgage executives. While these positions are limited, financial managers earn a median of $1,227 per week. On the lower end of the spectrum, earning a median of $1,061 each week, home-based tax preparers are being hired by companies like Intuit.
